Good Vibrations
When I use tuning forks in with my massage work I like to think of them as harmonizing agents. Harmony speaks of integration and balance, both vital to our ongoing wellness. When our body hears and experiences a tone over and over, we are lulled into an altered state where we can access our own healing space. I can't think of a better place for us to be when we are receiving massage!
If this seems too strange or new agey to you, consider this: We can choose both traditional medicine and alternative methods to work through any health challenge we have. We can work closely with our M.D. and specialist and at the same time receive massages, do yoga or have our energy balanced for example. When a client tells me about an injury or a condition they are dealing with I not only work with them physically but I also suggest any other healing method I know of that they might be open to. It is my professional duty. My hope for them is that they will take advantage of the 'both/and' philosophy of health, rather than the 'either/or' philosophy.
I have seen it written that our lives now are overloaded with activity and stimulation. In our headlong rush into technology we are forgetting the basics and have become disconnected from our nature. I can certainly see evidence of this in the work I do. Some of my clients are buzzing along at a frantic pace all day and falling into a troubled sleep at night. When massage and tuning forks are used together in a session we are calmed, nurtured and brought back to our center, to ourselves. We go inside to take a little rest. We are home.
Tip of the Day
Take 5 minutes at the beginning or end of each day to sit, eyes closed and breathe. Focus repeatedly on your breath as it comes and goes. That's it! You will be amazed at how this practice calms and centers you.
